This is the sign awaiting those who climb the mountain - Good Luck Cole!

Kilimanjaro. The name itself is a mystery wreathed in clouds. It might mean Mountain of Light, Mountain of Greatness or Mountain of Caravans. Or it might not. The local people, the Wachagga, don't even have a name for the whole massif, only Kipoo (now known as Kibo) for the familiar snowy peak that stands imperious, overseer of the continent, the summit of Africa.

My Mount Kilimanjaro 2014 Challenge:

(the climb has successfully been completed, to find out about the climb and for more pictures click here)

I’m so excited to be able to experience Africa and challenge myself with hiking Mount Kili!  The organization that I’m going with is called Overland Summer And Adventure Program. I will be traveling with seven girls, five boys and two counselors.  Overland travels all over the globe, and this will be my third trip with them.

I will be traveling, hiking and camping, in small farming villages of the Usambara Mountains to the busy streets of Arusha. We will experience the vast expanse of the Serengeti and then we will climb and summit Mount Kilimanjaro!  I will learn Swahili and immerse myself in the history and culture of Tanzania. During my weeklong hike to Mount Kili we will have no access to running water or showers. It will be a tough and awesome trip at the same time. That is what the Overland experience is all about! It stretches you, strengthens you and bonds you to something beyond yourself!

I am asking for friends and family and you, to help me with this challenge and sponsor me while I’m climbing Mt. Kili to raise money for The Provo Children’s Home. There are many ways for you to help me with this. My suggestion is: you sponsor me for every foot that I climb, by donating money ranging from one cent to ten cents or you can donate a fixed dollar amount for the climb.  My goal is to raise $19,341.00, which is the height of Mount Kilimanjaro in feet!!

All of the money that I raise will go to PCH. I am proud to do this hike for the Provo Children’s Home and myself! Thank you for your donation and any amount is greatly appreciated!

Asante-sana!! Cole Johnson
