FirstCaribbean International Bank helped children in need in Turks & Caicos this month when it chose the Nissi House as the benefactor of its Adopt-a-Cause program.
Adopt-A-Cause is a social responsibility program that demonstrates the commitment FirstCaribbean has not only to Turks & Caicos but also to the rest of the Caribbean. Each of the Bank’s branches around the region is asked to "adopt" a project within its community by encouraging employees to give of their time, in addition to a monetary contribution from the bank.
On a recent Friday, a group of highly enthusiastic and motivated employees of the bank conducted a bake sale at the main branch to help raise money for the kids of the Nissi House. The Nissi House is an independent, non-profit orphanage that relies 100% on private donations to feed, educate and care for the children it houses. The main need of the Nissi House at this time is a van or vehicle large enough to transport the group. So, the money provided by FirstCaribbean will go towards this goal.
Mr. Peter Edmunds and Ms. Rudell Williams of FirstCaribbean presented a check to Dawna Dewitt of the Nissi House that included the money raised from the employee bake sale along with a donation from the bank. Currently there are eight children living at the Nissi house from a variety of backgrounds and raging in age from 2 to 14.
The Adopt-a-Cause program serves to cultivate the spirit and desire to give back to the community. When the program was launched regionally it was envisioned that the employees of the bank would be able to move from behind their desks to work hand in hand with members of the community who have largely contributed to the success of the bank. FirstCaribbean Bank is one of the largest corporate donors in the region and the bank pledges to continue this trend in the years to come.
In her life, Bain was an activist who impacted the Nissi House children’s daily lives quite a bit. Her family and friends thought it only fitting that they do something for Nissi House in her absence.
“We the family of the late Nancy Irene Green Bain have come today to present Nissi House with this token of our love and support as they continue to work to assist the children that are housed there,” Sandra Sweeting, Bain’s Sister, said. Kelly Hedges of Nissi House expressed her gratitude to the Bain’s family and co-workers from the social services department that were gathered in front of the children’s home for the presentation. “I would like to take the time to thank all of her family and friends who made this generous contribution. Nancy affected the lives of many of the children at Nissi House and for that she will be deeply missed,” Hedges said. Bain’s son Daryl told WIV4’s Deandrea Hamilton that his mother would “feel great and honored” by the donation. ˜Bobbi Misick & Deandrea Hamilton Logos right click - save picture
